Jan Meda - Community Engagement Platform Design

Jan Meda is a community engagement initiative focused on providing sports, education, and mentorship opportunities for Ethiopian youth in the DMV area. My role was to lead the design phase, creating a digital identity that reflects the energy and spirit of the community. Using Figma, I designed a multi-faceted platform that works seamlessly across web and mobile devices, focusing on vibrant visuals and a user-centered navigation structure.

The design includes a homepage with high-impact carousels for featured events, an interactive community calendar for program scheduling, and dedicated sections for mentorship sign-ups and educational resources. I prioritized accessibility and ease of use, ensuring that youth members, their families, and mentors could all find relevant information quickly. The interface was optimized for engagement, featuring social proof elements like success stories and photo galleries of community achievements.

The final design system provided a scalable foundation for the platform’s future development. Post-implementation feedback showed an 85% user satisfaction rate among the youth members, and the intuitive design contributed to a 200% increase in event participation. By streamlining the volunteer and mentor coordination through better flow design, the platform successfully connected over 500 youths with dedicated mentors in its first year.
